You don’t need a lot of space for your gardening dreams to come true; in fact all you need is a pot!
Enter container gardening.
You can grow many different type of plants in containers, including the majority of vegetables, fruit and flowers. Plus when you plant in pots you have the option to move them around and rearrange your garden when you fancy a change.
Container gardening can be a great way to get started with gardening if you are just a beginner because it’s a lot easier to raise just a pot of plants than an entire bed!
But the best thing about container gardening is the creative things people use as pots. So I’ve found 11 of the best container gardening ideas to inspire you to start your own container garden!
Indoor container gardening:
If you are a complete gardening beginner then you might want to start with a few indoor plants to get you started. There awesome indoor DIY container gardening ideas are easy to make and will look fab!
1) Seashell Succulents Planter
I think this is my favorite container idea I’ve ever seen. This seashell succulent planter would look adorable in a bathroom and succulents are very in right now!
Plus succulents are easy to care for so it’s perfect for gardening newbies.
2) Vintage Coffee Pot Planters
This is such a cute idea and would look perfect in a farmhouse style kitchen. You could also plant herbs instead of the air purifying plant that Gena from Ginger Casa uses to make it even more kitchen friendly!

3) Coffee Mug Herb Garden
Another brilliant kitchen container garden idea, and it would be really useful if you’re a keen cook to have all those fresh herbs to hand.
In fact Sarah from Must Have Mom likes to take these pots of herbs on holiday with her to her families cabin, to ensure she always has the right flavors on hand for cooking.

Outdoor container gardening:
If you have a balcony or a patio then it’s always nice to have a few different pots and planters to decorate the space.
4) DIY Wooden Crate Planter and Storage
This DIY container gardening idea would look great mounted to the side of a shed that needed a bit of decoration (and have you ever seen a shed that didn’t need a bit of sprucing up!!!)
Plus the storage section underneath makes this really handy, in fact you could even put some herbs in coffee mugs (like the ones just above) in the storage section instead and mount this just outside your kitchen door!

Pallets make great DIY building material because you can usually find them for free! This is a really simple DIY project that looks great once it’s finished!
6) Patio Tomatoes
If you are not DIY inclined at all but still want to try your hand at growing some vegetables on your porch then this self-watering tomato planter is perfect! It even included a mat to stop weeds from growing!!!

9) Cement Blocks Raised Garden Bed
An awesome twist on the classic wooden raised beds is to use cement blocks. They are great because not only can you create a perimeter with them and plant in the middle, but you can also plant into the cement block holes!

10) Eggshell Seed Planters
Eggshells make amazing seed pots and once used they can be thrown on the compost heap, much more eco friendly than plastic pots!
11) DIY Newspaper Seed Pots
If you don’t fancy using eggshells as seed pots then you can try making your own out of newspaper instead! Again these are much more eco friendly than the plastic alternatives.
